Hi friend!

If you’ve ever been tempted to try a buzzy new supplement because someone on Instagram swears it changed their life — you’re not alone. From hormone-balancing powders to detox teas and sleep gummies, the wellness world is overflowing with quick fixes that promise big results.

But here’s the thing: supplements aren’t regulated like medications. In fact, many of the products flooding your feed haven’t been tested for safety or effectiveness — and some could even interfere with medications or cause real harm.

We’re not here to tell you to throw out your entire supplement shelf, but we are here to help you stay informed. Because when it comes to your health, marketing hype shouldn’t be the loudest voice in the room.

The truth about fentanyl in epidurals (it’s not what you think)

At some point during pregnancy, someone — maybe a friend, a birth worker, or a viral TikTok — probably mentioned the whole “fentanyl in epidurals” thing. It’s one of those topics that sparks concern fast, and honestly, we understand why. The word fentanyl can feel heavy, especially when it’s linked to something as personal as childbirth.

But here’s what often gets left out of the conversation: while many epidurals do contain a small amount of fentanyl, it’s not the same as the illicit drug that’s making headlines. In a clinical setting, under expert care, this medication has been safely used for decades to help people manage labor pain — effectively and with fewer side effects than you might expect.

With so much noise out there, we broke down the facts: what’s actually in an epidural, how it works, and why the presence of fentanyl isn’t something to fear.

Abortion bans & economic losses (TL;DR: women make the U.S. economy a lot of money!)

In 2023, nearly 58% of women over the age of 16 were working in the U.S. — a number that’s been climbing steadily since the late 1940s, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But abortion bans are starting to reverse some of that progress. When people lose the ability to make decisions about if or when to have children, it directly impacts their ability to stay in school, pursue careers, or remain in the workforce.

One analysis by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research found that the 17 states banning abortion are costing the U.S. economy a staggering $61 billion every year.

States that continue to protect abortion access are helping to offset some of that impact — but if a national ban were to happen, it could cost the economy an additional $78 billion. That’s not just a statistic; it means roughly 286,000 fewer women in the workforce and a noticeable dip in the country’s GDP. Sigh.
